Getting Back to Work

I've been creating watercolor/ink drawings this summer. They will be on display and for sale at Valentien Restaurant and Wine Bar in December with the reception on Dec. 3rd. I still have many more to make, but I really like how they are turning out...

My ceramics will be for sale at the Bakersfield Museum of Art starting next month in their gift shop. The little vases you see in the previous post are the start of what will be for sale along with cups and vases and possibly some pendants.

And it's back to school for me next week. Students return on the 20th and I have been in denial about getting to my classroom, but plan to go on Monday.

It's been such a great summer...

Dragging

I've been dragging my feet a bit... I think it's summer doing me in. I got back on the wheel today and made some funny little vases (they are just 2-3 inches tall). Here they are just taken off the wheel. They will get all cleaned up and pretty tomorrow, but I like how they look sloppy and fun so I had to snap a shot of them.

Back to Paper

I've been creating ink and watercolor pieces lately based on the idea of patchwork and stitching. They may be in an exhibit in December. I love layering the colors...

Most Recent Work

I've been thinking about creating this work for some time...
My mother is an incredible seamstress and would make many of our outfits growing up (I have 4 sisters); she also made my wedding dress... I on the other hand have never enjoyed sewing. Clay is my medium and the idea of adding stitching to clay and little bits of patchwork has been in the back of my mind since taking a workshop last summer at the Mendocino Art Center. It must come from sitting legs crossed on the floor of my mom's sewing room growing up.
I recently learned how to make that idea into reality by using wax resist, carving through it (the stitching) then adding stain or underglazing into the etchings. It creates exactly what I am looking for... Enjoy!
